Live at Vitello’s: Kevin Axt, Cheryl Bentyne and Wayne Johnson
Some great new reviews came in! The first is of a recent show at Vitello’s. Here’s an excerpt:
“Up Close & Personal” was the title Cheryl gave her performance. And it was right on target: Kevin Axt on bass, Wayne Johnson on guitar, and Cheryl in the center. No drums, no piano, no horns. None of which were needed in two sets of exquisite songs performed with intimate lyrical and musical clarity. One couldn’t have asked for more.
I also got some good ink on my latest record, “Let’s Misbehave – The Cole Porter Songbook.” In his review in The International Review of Music, Brian Arsenault wrote:
With that cultured, shining voice that sparkles like late summer sun setting on a rippling sea, she brings us all the varied and rich life of those songs. Life — romance, passion, love, misbehavin’ — is at the core of Porter. And Bentyne as well.
That’s it for now. Back to work!
